(Hawaii Cruiser) - The RAM is straight from Apple. OSX 10.0 will get to the install screen (choose your langauge) but then display blocky colorful artifacts before displaying a kernel panic and freezing. Because of this issue, I'm unable to install any programs as I have no OS.ġ0.3 Panther has 3 cds, it won't even get to the install screen before freezing or displaying a kernel panic. A cd that can't run programs straight off it like Apple's Hardware Test. What I meant by a "non-bootable cd" is a cd that has to install something to run. I originally had 1.5GB installed but TechTool Pro detected 2 of the modules were bad. My system is Dual 1 GHz with 512MB installed. Sorry if my post sounded hasty, I was in a big hurry when posting. Since I have no OS, I can't use any of that. Please don't recommend disk utility or any other software that is not bootable off a cd. ![]() So I am asking on forums in hope someone can help me. I can't find any information on fixing this anywhere. Here is the kernel panic error (part of it) I don't have the rest because I can't export a log as I have no OS. On the rare instances that it does try to install my OS (10.3 Panther) the screen displays blocky colorful artifacts before freezing completely or telling me to restart. So basically I have a G4 with no OS on it and continues to give a kernel panic anytime a non-bootable cd is inserted. I contacted Mac Professionals and they said to replace the logic board (if it is the problem) would be $500, which I don't have that kind of money for a repair. Taking out all extra hardware that didn't originally come with the machineĪpple Hardware Test (to check the memory) I have tried many of things recommended in books and by apple themselves but no luck. I ran that in both standard and extended mode but it detected no problems. Only bootable cds like apples hardware test will run. I turn on the computer and anytime I put in a non-bootable cd in the drive(like the OS install cd for example) it causes a kernel panic. I had to format it because it was giving me problems (last resort) but that didn't work at all. There was also a BTO "Ultimate" configuration, with dual 1 GHz processors, 1.5 GB or RAM, two 80 GB ATA-66 hard drives, and an NVIDIA GeForce4 Titanium graphics card, for $3899.My G4 Quicksilver keeps popping up a Kernel Panic everytime I try to install an OS or run something off CD. The Quicksilver 2002 PowerMac G4 was available in three configurations: The 800 MHz model, with 256 MB of RAM, a 40 GB hard drive, and a CD-RW drive, was $1599, the 933 MHz configuration, with 256 MB of RAM, a 60 GB hard drive and a DVD-R drive, was $2299, and the high-end 1 GHz model, with 512 MB of RAM, an 80 GB hard drive and a DVD-R drive, was $2999. Apart from the addition of a DDR SDRAM 元 cache on the middle and high-end models and several new graphics cards, the Quicksilver 2002 series was essentially a speed-bump of the Previous Quicksilver series. The 64 MB NVIDIA GeForce4 Titanium graphics card was available on all models as a BTO configuration.Īnnounced in January 2002, The PowerMac G4 (Quicksilver 2002) was the first Mac to break the Gigahertz barrier. The 800 MHz model used a PPC 7450 processor, had no level 3 cache, shipped with 32 MB ATI Radeon 7500 graphics card, and a 24x/8x/4x CD-RW drive, and had Maximum OS of 10.4.11. ![]() ![]() Optical Drive: 24x/8x/4x/6x/2x/1x CD-RW/DVD-RĪudio Out: stereo 16 bit mini, Pro Speaker ![]() Max Resolution: all resolutions supported ROM: 1 MB ROM + 3 MB toolbox ROM loaded into RAMĮxpansion Slots: 4 64-bit 33 MHz PCI, 1 4x AGP (filled) Level 3 Cache: 2 MB DDR SDRAM per-processor, 1:4 Level 1 Cache: 32 kB data, 32 kB instruction
